July 2018

Hello Loyal Friends,

I hope this Newsletter finds you all in good health and enjoying the warm sunny weather we have been having over the last month or so.

The early part of the year was relatively quiet engagement-wise, although the band, together with our Training band, did take part in the Cawl a Chân evening at the Welfare Hall on 16 February. Another lovely evening of good music and excellent food.

More recently we have been quite busy including having the privilege of visiting two local primary schools (Penllergaer and CasLlwchwr). We hope these visits will nurture the youngsters’ interest in music, encourage them to take up playing brass instruments and hopefully they may come along to our training band on a Monday evening.

On 4th July we played in a fund raising concert together with the Bay Choir at Ebenezer Chapel, Dunvant, as a result of which £250 was donated to the Alzheimers society. Following on from this the band has been busy playing at Prince Phillip hospital Llanelli to celebrate the 70th birthday of the NHS, accompanied the singing at a united church event at the Church of St Nicholas on the Hill and St Judes, Townhill and then played at Loughor Regatta on the 21st of July. Looking a little into the future we will taking part in another fund raising concert at St Marys Church Clydach on 27 October. In between those dates we will be performing at Parc William,Loughor on 11 August. It would be lovely to see you there (fingers crossed for good weather!).

This year we will be holding our Annual Concert on 29 September at the Welfare Hall when our guests for evening will be the Swansea based Phoenix Male Voice Choir. We are looking forward to an enjoyable evening with a varied programme of music. We also hope to fill the hall this year, so please spread the word. On the subject of our Annual Concert we were so pleased to see our guest artiste from last year’s concert, Lauren Mia Jones singing on national television recently on ITVs The Voice Kids. Well done Lauren.

We are already planning our Christmas diary. We have a Community Christmas event at St David’s Church Loughor on 23 November, a Christmas Light switch on in Bynea on 30 November and in December the annual Christmas Carol Concert at St Michael’s Loughor. In addition to those engagements we also hope to be playing at local stores during December.

Well I think that’s our news covered. If you have any thoughts or comments about anything I have written please feel free to get in touch.

I will get back to you in a short while with an update confirming details with regard our Annual Concert.  In the meantime as I always say we are your Community band so if there is anything we can do to support you or any organisation you may be involved with, please get in touch and if we can help, we will.

Kind regards

Dorian Mardon
